Book

Crossing borders - living and learning together in a colourful world.

by Jenny Wickford and Fatumo Osman

Authors Jenny Wickford and Fatumo Osman come from very different backgrounds, having both grown up outside of Sweden, but each moving there when they were nineteen. Jenny grew up in Pakistan, then moved to Sweden, the home of her parents. Fatumo came to Sweden after fleeing from the civil war in Somalia. They formed an instant bond, sharing stories and thoughts about the changes they experienced, realising that, as people, there are more similarities than differences between us.

The increasing possibilities of travel, whether by force or by choice, have brought people together like never before. However, it has also triggered the building of walls and the hardening of borders. Crossing Borders explores what it means to live together in intercultural environments, and offers practical solutions for living and learning together at a time when this subject is more important than ever.

The proceeds from this book will go to Noora Wellbeing, and towards projects supporting women's wellbeing.

Podcast: The Ladnaan Podcast

ladnaanpodcast logo.png

Welcome to Ladnaan podcast. Ladnaan podcast is for both parents and parents to be who would like to know more and learn new parenting skills. The word Ladnaan originates from Somali and means wellbeing.

In the Ladnaan podcast, we will discuss and update you on our research, including research done by other scientists in parenting, children’s and parents’ health. We will focus on children’s mental health, the effect that parents’ mental health has on the children, adolescent and young adults’ mental health and how we can support them.

The Ladnaan podcast was started by two friends who wanted to share their experiences, knowledge and latest parenting and child development research translated into practical steps for parents. Being a parent is both a great joy and at the same time stressful and overwhelming, especially if you are raising your child in a different culture and context than the one you were raised in. In one moment, we feel that everything is so smooth, and the next we feel like we are failing as a parent. But we want to assure you that there is no perfection in parenting. The same method that worked for another parent may not work for another. We hope that every parent will find their way of parenting through Ladnaan podcast.

The Ladnaan Podcast collaborates with Noora Wellbeing.
